A Different Kind of Holiday - Tiritiri Matangi Island, New Zealand

I've never imagined having a holiday serving others instead of being served. Digging out drenches instead of shopping, dinning on instant, simple food instead of gourmet food in fine restaurants. This is my experience volunteering in Tiritiri Matangi Island. A friend asked why I want to have a holiday on an isiolated island after almost 8 years without a real holiday.

Green Retreat

Tiritiri Matangi is a magical island where a number of threatened and endangered bird and reptile species have been successfully introduced. It is one of New Zealand's most important conservation projects. The forest with native bush was recreated by volunteers planting 250,000 and 300,000 trees.

You can get ready close to a Takahe on the Island.

Serving others, serving the environment, a holiday with no expensive tickets can sometimes be quite an enriching experience to the soul.
