Esturay in Auckland

"Ko au te awa, Ko te awa ko au" (I am the river and the river is me), this lead me to reflect on the direction we're heading for the pollution in Tamaki Estuary. Which direction are we heading? What's our next step?
Estuary Reflection

Artists are invited to research and respond to the Tamaki Estuary in the Estuary Art Awards, organised by the Malcolm Smith Gallery and the Auckland Council. An Auckland Council report shows Tamaki Estuary has contamination levels so high they are harmful to aquatic life. The Tamaki Estuary is mostly an estuarial arm and harbour of the Hauraki Gulf, it extends 15 kilometres and pass suburbs including St. Heliers, Glendowie, Point England, Glenn Innes, Tamaki, Panmure, Otahuhu, Otara, Sunny Hill, Pakuanga, Bucklands Beach, Half Moon Bay, Musick Point. The waters of Onehunga bridge are estuarine. More information about estuaries in New Zealand on the Department of Conservation site.
Estuaries provide nurseries and habitat for juvenile marine organisms, also providing nesting and feeding areas for birdlife. It is a natural flood/storm control and stores carbon and mitigates effects of climate change.
